Grocery Haul - How to stock up on all the good stuff

I thought I would share a recent grocery trip to Aldi with you guys. If your not from Australia or haven't heard of Aldi before, it is like no other grocery store I know.

The main selling point of Aldi as I see it is affordability and simplicity. They stock a limited number of brands (mainly their own), they don't sell a bunch of crappy grocery items you don't need and they are pretty cheap.

I mainly go there when I want meat or need to stock up on some veges. They have a decent range of both and are a lot cheaper than other grocery stores like Woolworths or Coles.

When I go grocery shopping I try to buy only proteins and vegetables, because for me these are what make up the majority of my diet. I try to avoid most other processed foods.

If I am craving dessert or anything like that then I prefer to make it from scratch, other than that I really try to keep them out of my house.

It is also significantly cheaper to shop like this. It only cost me $150 for all of this! This will feed the boy and I for a week or more. If I was to shop at a more generic grocery store, the equivalent plus all the random stuff that ends up in my trolley can cost up to double the amount.

  1. Hi Emilie, I am surprised to read that Aldi exists in Australia! I thought it was only available in Luxembourg, Germany and France. I have never shopped at Aldi even though there's one very close to where I live. I should check it out.

  3. I actually have an Aldi right up the street and have never been in! I am all about quality goods at a cheap price. After your post I think I may need to stop in. I doubt you have these but Trader Joe's? I love that store and they are cheap with quality!

    1. I am sure you will get it eventually! Haha Australia is pretty slow to get up to the times isn't it?

  7. I don't think we have many Aldi in the US but I'm lucky enough to have one right up the street! You're right - it definitely lacks all the pointless "fillers" that you don't need or want, and helps you shop for the good stuff. We have very similar food preferences!
