Jenn has come up with a new theme for the kick off for August (I seriously cannot believe it is August already!!!). Summer Staples - now I live in Australia so we are actually getting well into Winter so sadly things like ice-blocks and cool refreshing salads are pretty unappealing until it warms up. However one suggestion was to share our gardening adventures so... that's what I am doing! Yay!!
Ever since I moved out of home 3 years ago I have always tried to keep some sort of garden because I love that I can gather a few herbs or green onions for my various cooking adventures so I shall go through the brief history of Emilie's gardening adventures.
First Home - Grew mountains of mint, rosemary and green onions - decided planting some pretty flowers in my little 2 metre garden would be delightful. Flower turned into noxious weed and took over said garden... Epic Fail
Second House (nasty rental) - Planted seedlings into Styrofoam boxes I stole from our Pharmacy Department at the hospital I work at. Grew the most perfect mixed lettuce, chives and parsley.
WIN!
WIN!
Third and Current Home - Bonus of our current home was that it came with a established fruit trees and a perfectly sized veggie plot WIN! It also came with an extensive and ferocious snail population Fail :(
Turns out the snails hate all forms of herbs! WIN WIN WIN!!
Turns out the snails hate all forms of herbs! WIN WIN WIN!!
Onto my eats for the day.
Breakfast included these rather fantastic looking blueberry pancakes. However they didn't taste as good as they looked. Too doughy and not enough blueberry for my taste plus I only got through one - they were so big!
Snacks for the day consisted of many a coffee with rice milk, a few oranges from my orange tree and a naughty bag of nacho cheese flavoured popcorn <-- so yum!
For lunch, I made myself a refreshing tuna salad with tomato, mixed asian leafy greens, red onion, baby roma tomatoes and a little bit of mayo.
Onto my favourite meal of the whole day!! Home made roast pork with roast apple, asparagus, red onion and Brussels sprouts. The apple through the roast vegetables added the most delicious sweet flavour!
Question for the day...
Has anyone else had so many veggie/herb garden fails? What is the secret to success? How do you annihilate snails?
Those pancakes look amazing! Shame they were too doughy x
